  1. When Gary and Tammy got married I had completed a course on cake decorated at the local community college and thought I knew something so I voluntered to decorate their cake. And Jill voluntered to bake it. Gary requested an applesause cake. Mother had been baking applesause cake for years so we asked her for the recipe. Gary and Tammy were married in the temple and we requesrws the recipe just as they were all getting ready to leave for the ceremony. Mother couldn't find her recipe so she pulled down a recipe book from the shelf and found one that said applesause cake and said here is a recipe. It was not this recipe, not her recipe, it was all together different, but we didn't know it. This recipe called for the cake to be cooked for a very long time and it must have been a lower temp. It had lots of apple sause in it, more like a fruit cake I think, Anyway in the end the cake turned out underbaked, I wanted the cake to be beautiful but different so I colored the frosting light blue to match the color of the dresses of the wedding party. The dresses had white flocking on them so the cake was blue with white decorations. The interior of the cake had a grey look, the blue frosting reminded me of mold growing on something. I was so disappointed, no one else said anything, but I sure wished we woould have had mothers "own" applesause cake for the occasion. i wonder if there is a picture of that cake around somewhere.
